Hero and Rebel

If you check the list of definitions for hero in any dictionary, you’ll see that the words in the list are only positive words like: star, ideal, exemplar, number one, idol… But, if you check the list of definitions for rebel you’ll see that there are more negative words to define this kind of person than positive words. However, if you observe human history, you’ll see that many heroes were rebels before, so there’s obviously a thin line between them. A rebel wants to change something and will do whatever it takes to change that situation. In the list of words which describes a rebel there are the words “innovator”, “revolution”, and “nonconformist”. So if a rebel tries to change something for the best, he’ll be a hero, won’t he? Let’s check some examples in history: Gandhi, in order to make India an independent country, boycotted foreign-made goods, especially British goods, so he was a rebel even if he didn’t use any violence. And yet, he was considered a hero afterwards. Let’s take another example: the people who participated in the French revolution. They were rebelling against the king and the monarchy, but they are considered heroes nowadays. Still, some heroes have never been rebels, like Spiderman or Superman, and i can’t think of an example from a hero who became a rebel. To sum up, we can say that rebels and heroes have a lot of things in common, a rebel can become a hero, but a hero won’t become a rebel.

The Sims

I’ve always played The Sims. When I was 7 years, I used to count the minutes at school, to go home and play The Sims 1. In The Sims 1, the characters weren’t very real, it was like a cartoon, but I loved to take care of “my characters”, build houses, marry my characters, buy new stuff for their house, get money…

There were these things called “Expansions” for The Sims. According to the expansion you bought, you could take your Sims on vacations, buy them Pets, take them on a romantic date outside the house (In the sims 1, without the expansion your sims couldn’t leave their house or even visit the neighborhood).

In 2006, The Sims 2 finally appeared, I was 12 years old at the time. It was the big revolution; the characters had become so real! The graphic of the game was 3D, it seemed just like reality! Besides, your character could look just like you; there were sooo many options, of haircuts, outfits, skin tone… You could even pick your Sim’s biggest dream in life!

This year, I saw on internet that The Sims 3 was coming. I felt really excited, but then, I thought ” Oh my god, I’m fifteen years old, I’ll seem like a baby playing this, or worse, a non-amusing life person!”. One week after the game came out, my class colleague told me that she had played (it was her little brother’s game though…), and it was REALLY nice. I was so curious, but I still refused to buy it. Until, one day, when i was MY 20 YEAR-OLD BROTHER PLAYING IT! He let me play his game, I became obsessed, it was the best game ever. But, he doesn’t live with me so on a few days; I wasn’t going to be able to play it anymore. I HAD to buy it. And I did. I played every time, during one month, after that, I got tired of it, and I’ve never played it anymore… But after writing this post I remembered how cool it is to play, so maybe in a few minutes, I’ll play it!

Taken Review

Sooo, we are almost at the end of 2009…! This year I watched a lot of movies, but the one I liked the best was “Taken”, a French action film starring Liam Neeson as the main character. It deals with the kidnapping of the daughter of an old CIA agent, Bryan (Liam Neeson).

Kim is finally 17 years old, and as birthday gift, her step dad gives her and her best friend a trip to Paris, alone, just the two girls. Kim’s dad, Bryan, doesn’t want her to go, because being an old CIA agent; he knows that two girls on their own in another country can be very dangerous. After a lot of insistence from his daughter, her mother and her step-dad, Bryan gives up and let his daughter go to Paris, but on one condition: she must call him every single day.

When the two girls arrive in Paris, a very handsome guy asks them to take a picture for him. He gets to know them, and then persuades them to share a cab with him. When they arrive in the place the two girls were going to stay, the man manages to get their apartment number, pretending he’s going to pick them up, later, to go to a party. After getting this information, the man calls a mysterious person and shares it with him.

When the two girls arrive at the apartment, Kim decides to call her father to tell everything’s fine. While she’s on the phone, she sees that two men have broken into the place and are kidnapping her friend. Desperate, she explains what’s going on to her dad. He tells her that soon she’s going to be taken as well, and asks her to leave the phone on under the bed, and say loudly as much as she can about her kidnapper.

Bryan records the call, and after analyzing the language spoken by the two kidnappers, he discovers that they are from the Albanian Mafia, which is often envolved with women traffic and sex slaves.

The desperate dad, goes immediately to Paris, and calls his old CIA’s friends to ask them for help. In a brothel, he sees a girl with her daughter’s coat, and asks her for information about Kim: she says that she might be at a particular house. At this house, Bryan recognize one of the men that kidnapped his daughter by the voice; he kills him and all his “mates”. There, he also sees his daughter’s friend, Amanda dead because of physical abuse and overdose…

I loved this movie, is so interesting! Besides, it kept me more alert! I REALLY learned that I shouldn’t give information about myself to anyone.

Going to church

Going to church

Religion surrounds our whole life. Even though in my family, we have three family members married to Jews, we were all baptized in the Catholic Church. My parents go to church every Friday, but I only go once in a while, like at Christmas or Easter. I’m very confused about what I believe. I have a lot of doubts, and I have to admit: I hate going to church. I’ve already talked to my mother about it, and she said it’s absolutely normal at my age, and she told me not to worry about it, because at some point, I’m going to need help, and I will only find it at church. Maybe this is what will happen, maybe not. What I know, however, is that I do want to discover other religions, to see where I fit in best.

Going back to the fact that I hate going to church, I think the basis of every religion is to make sure we are good human beings. However, we see a lot of persons that pray the whole time, and after praying, do bad things, like stealing, killing… So… What’s the point of going to church? I mean, wouldn’t God prefer someone who doesn’t go to church but does charitable actions instead of someone who goes to church every single day, and does not live what he believes in? Maybe I’m just a stupid teenager, who doesn’t know anything, but at this point of my life, that’s what I think, maybe in two years I’ll become a nun, who knows? I just wanted to share my opinion with other persons and see what they think.

90210 review

So… There’s this TV show I really like, and I wanted to share my opinion about it with you. Nowadays, there are a lot of TV shows for teenagers, there is Gossip Girl, there is Privileged, there is Newport Harbor… They are all good, but my favorite one is 90210. In the nineties, there was a show called Beverly Hills 90210, and it was a huge success, so last year, the American channel “The CW” decided to make a new version of the old show, with new actors. When I watched 90210 for the first time, I just loved it, and I couldn’t wait to see the next episode. Sometimes I get bored with a TV show, but this one kept me entertained and curious the whole season. Besides that, I really like fashion, and the outfits that we see in 90210, are just amazing, they mix high street with famous brands. The male characters, in my opinion, are the most handsome boys in the world, but the girls are also very beautiful. A lot of people would say that gossip girl is way better than 90210, but I don’t agree. For me gossip girl, it’s a little bit fake, I mean, girls are just TOO mean, and the whole blog thing, it’s clearly not real. I recognize real situations in 90210, sometimes I just picture myself going through the same thing that the characters are going through. Well, if you didn’t watch it yet, you really should : the second season is on September’s 8t.h.

I just love to travel! My biggest dream is to meet all kind of people, and know every kind of culture. There’s a huge world out there, and there is so much to see! I know I won’t be able to see the WHOLE world but I’d like, at least, to visit 3 countries in each continent. I wanna do this before I am 30 years old, because when you learn about other cultures, when you live with different persons, you get life experience. The more life experience you have, the easier you understand people, and get through tough situations, so to sum up, you have a better life.
On trips, you also have a lot of fun, see amazing sights and live unforgettable moments!
